Simply Horticulture

The disabled/disadvantaged allotment project at the West Avenue site is ‘up and running’ albeit in its early stages. Names are being taken of those who would like to cultivate a small raised bed with others or give assistance to those less able bodies to do so.

Perhaps you used to have an allotment or garden but had to give it up as it was too large or you couldn’t get down to do it? Perhaps you are a fit and active retired person who likes working with the soil and has time to spare to help others? Look out for the posters in the town or send your contact details to the Town Clerk (01665 714 695) who will pass them on. It is hoped once it is established that a Committee can be set up to run the project.

Unfortunately there was not enough grant funding to upgrade the ‘roadway’ to the allotted area and the surface from either entrance still heaves a lot to be desired. It could prove difficult to negotiate for those who the scheme is designed to help even though we have had some work done to fill in the worst of the potholes. We are looking into ways in which these entrances might be eligible for some funding to improve them. In the meantime if you know or anyone or any organisation who could help please let us know.
